Flying Blue Platinum
Platinum status (300 XP after Gold, 580 XP from zero) is the highest XP-based tier. It also opens the door to Ultimate status via UXP earned exclusively on AF and KLM flights.
Platinum Status Benefits
8 miles per euro spent
vs 7 for Gold and 4 for Explorer — double the base rate.
+2 checked bags (23 kg each)
Two extra bags on all AF, KLM and SkyTeam flights, including the most restrictive fares.
SkyTeam lounge access + 1 guest
Same access as Gold, but with Economy Comfort guaranteed from booking (no 72h wait).
Economy Comfort from booking
Reserve your extra-legroom seat as soon as you buy your ticket — no waiting like at Gold.
Platinum Service Line 24/7
Dedicated phone line for Platinum members, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Access to UXP (towards Ultimate)
AF/KL flights earn UXP in addition to XP. Accumulate 900 UXP to reach Ultimate status.
Path to Platinum for Life
10 consecutive years at Platinum or Ultimate = Platinum for life. The count starts here.
Strategy to reach this status
300 XP after Gold (580 XP from zero): around 5 AMS-JFK round-trips in Business (30 XP/leg × 2 legs = 60 XP/round-trip) — 5 transatlantic business trips.
With the Amex Platinum card (60 XP/year), you still need 240 XP from flights. Mix Economy and Business long-haul flights to reach the target.
If you're targeting Ultimate next: only fly AF or KL-numbered flights — each earns both XP and UXP. A Delta codeshare (DL1234) earns zero UXP.
Automatic protection: once you reach Platinum, you're protected by soft landing — if you don't hit 300 XP the following year, you drop to Gold (not Explorer).
