Flying Blue Miles

Flying Blue miles are the currency of the Air France-KLM group's loyalty programme. Learn how to accumulate them strategically and use them for maximum value.

What is a Flying Blue mile?

A Flying Blue mile is the reward unit of the Flying Blue programme. It is credited to your account on qualifying flights, partner purchases or spending with co-branded cards.

Unlike XP (experience points that determine your status), miles are your exchange currency: they accumulate and are used to book award tickets or upgrades.

How much is a Flying Blue mile worth?

The value of a Flying Blue mile varies depending on how you use it. On average, a mile is worth between 1 and 2 euro cents for Economy tickets, and can reach 3 to 4 cents for long-haul Business tickets.

Essential strategies

1. Diversify your sources of miles

Don't rely solely on flights. Co-branded credit cards and transfers from programmes like Amex Membership Rewards can generate miles much faster.

2. Take advantage of Promo Rewards

Flying Blue regularly offers promotions with 25% to 50% discounts on the number of miles needed for certain destinations.

3. Use miles for Business Class

The best value-per-mile is generally found on long-haul Business tickets, where the value in miles can be 3 to 5 times higher than in Economy.
