Gold = 180 XP after Silver (280 XP from zero). Quick example: 3 AMS-JFK round-trips in Economy = 3 × 20 XP = 60 XP. You'd need ~14 such flights — or mix with Business.
Business class strategy: 3 AMS-JFK round-trips in Business (30 XP/leg) = 3 × 60 XP = 180 XP. Gold in one quarter of business travel.
With the Amex Platinum Flying Blue card (60 XP/year) + 2 long-haul round-trips in Business = 60 + 120 XP = 180 XP. Goal achieved.
