Flying Blue Promo Rewards: The Guide to Never Missing a Deal

How Flying Blue Promo Rewards work, how to find them, and how to use them to get maximum value from your miles — every month.

Promo Rewards are one of the best features in the Flying Blue program. Each month, hundreds of destinations are offered at 25–50% off the standard miles price. If you're serious about getting value from your miles, this is the tool you need to understand cold.

What Are Promo Rewards?

Promo Rewards (formerly known as "L'Envol du Mois") are monthly promotions published by Flying Blue. They offer significant reductions on the number of miles required to book award tickets on selected routes.

Unlike cash fare promotions, Promo Rewards directly reduce the miles price. If a Business Class Paris–Barcelona normally costs 40,000 miles, a Promo Rewards offer at −25% lets you book it for 30,000 miles. Same seat, fewer miles.

When Are Promo Rewards Published?

Promo Rewards are typically published on the first Wednesday of each month. They cover flights departing the following month — sometimes with a few days of the current month included.

Typical calendar example:

  • Published: March 5th
  • Valid for flights: April 1st–30th

Availability varies by destination and date. On the most popular routes (Paris–New York, Paris–Tokyo), award space can sell out within hours of the promotion going live. Being ready when the deals drop is not optional — it's part of the strategy.

How to Access Promo Rewards

  • Log into your Flying Blue account on airfrance.com or klm.com
  • Search for a flight and select "Pay with miles"
  • Destinations on Promo Rewards will be marked with a promotion badge
  • You can also check the dedicated Promo Rewards section in your member dashboard
  • Which Destinations Go on Promotion?

Flying Blue doesn't publish the destination list in advance. Each month's selection changes, but typically includes:

    • European routes at −25% or −35%
    • Popular long-haul destinations at −25% or −50%
    • Occasionally premium options, including La Première at significantly reduced mile prices

Historically, Paris–New York, Paris–Montreal, Paris–Tokyo, and Paris–Singapore have appeared in Promo Rewards regularly. No guarantee they'll be included any given month — but they come up often enough to plan around.

Strategies to Get the Most from Promo Rewards

    Be Ready on the Day

The best deals go fast. Before the first Wednesday each month, make sure you:

    • Have enough miles in your account (transfers from Amex can take a few hours)
    • Have flexible dates in mind — not one specific travel window
    • Have a payment card ready for the cash portion (taxes and fees)

    Build a Destination Wishlist

Before the promotion drops, identify the routes you'd love to fly and the standard miles price. When Promo Rewards arrive, you'll immediately know whether the offer is worth acting on — without having to do the math in real time.

    Don't Overlook Economy Promo Rewards

Many members only watch for Business Class deals, but a −50% Economy Promo Rewards on an expensive long-haul route can still deliver excellent value per mile — and is often easier to find availability on.

    Always Compare Against Cash

Before redeeming miles, check the cash price of the same flight. If the route happens to be on sale for €250 in cash, spending 30,000 miles (worth roughly €450 in value) doesn't make sense. Miles for cash promotions aren't always a winning combination.

    Real-World Examples

Paris–New York Business Class at −50%:

    • Standard price: 90,000 miles + €350 in taxes
    • With Promo Rewards: 45,000 miles + €350 in taxes
    • Equivalent cash price: ~€4,500
    • Value of those 45,000 miles: (4,500 − 350) ÷ 45,000 = 9.2 cents per mile

That's an outstanding result — comfortably above the 2–3 cent average that most experts consider "good."

    Paris–Madrid Economy at −25%:

    • Standard price: 12,000 miles + €40 in taxes
    • With Promo Rewards: 9,000 miles + €40 in taxes
    • Equivalent cash price: ~€180
    • Value of those 9,000 miles: (180 − 40) ÷ 9,000 = 1.6 cents per mile

Decent, but not exceptional. This illustrates why long-haul Business Promo Rewards are typically the best use of your miles — the spread between cash price and miles cost is much larger.

    The Bottom Line

Promo Rewards are the single biggest opportunity in the Flying Blue program for anyone who plans even slightly ahead. Set a reminder for the first Wednesday of every month. Keep a wishlist of routes you care about. Have miles ready. When the combination clicks — right destination, right discount, available seats — act immediately.
